This guide is easier to read than most books on this subject. Yes, I would buy it again. The only problem is that it takes tons of time to go through as it is 600 pages of intense information. But the Series 7 is a very challenging exam without a stellar pass rate. I think if you go through this book and know it inside and out, you have a good chance of passing it. I would plan on a few months.

The product knowledge in this book is good for Series 7, 24 and Continuing Education Regulatory Element Programs 2-201 and 2-101. However, you should additionally buy something specific to Series 24 and 2-201. Why both for the series 24, because they expect you to remember all of the product knowledge in order to supervise it.

I bought this book for the 2-201 regulatory requirement, but did not finish this book as I ran out of time and switched to a shorter Series 24 guide. However, for the areas I was weak in, I could look them up in this book. I passed!

This book can be a good reference as the index in the back is very extensive to find what you are looking for. When you find the item, it is very thoroughly explained with some humor.

Pass the 7 A Training Guide for the FINRA Series 7 Exam Robert Walker 9780912301754 Books Reviews

I used this book, as well as the Series 7 for Dummies book and another book from Knopman provided by my employers. I started with Pass the 7 first, and it was quite readable.

The down side was humour was quite annoying, more often coming over as snarky. The sense was definitely mocking, in a "those elitists came up with this terminology to reinforce their own self-importance" kind of way. It felt a bit odd, since I was studying to join the same industry that was the butt of the jokes. I found the humour distracting and didn't add anything to the learning experience.

In the end, the book ended up being a bit light on some topics. I ran through both the For Dummies book and Pass the 7 to get a good overview, then spent most of my time with the Knopman book, which was very thorough and used the test's terminology throughout the subjects.

You could do much worse than get this book. There's no two ways about it, though, you're going to have to read a ton for this test, especially if you didn't have a finance background like me.

If you're taking the series 7, do yourself a favour and really concentrate on Municipal Bonds and Equity Options. Those two topics will comprise a huge portion of the exam, and are worth knowing inside and out.
I did not pass the 7. I read the Pass the 7 twice, as well as Exam Cram Series 7 once. I took the exam and failed with a score of 65%.

I noticed a lot of material on the exam I had not even heard of. This book should NOT be used as the primary source of information. I'm not sure I'd even recommend it as a supplement. About the only thing that was helpful to me was the way he described making a bet for or against Pepsi.

Do yourself a favor and find a Dearborn Publishing Passtrak License Exam Manual. I found an older edition online for cheap. Yes, it is more studying and reading, but there is a lot more comprehension with it in how they test your understanding of the material. I noticed a couple of questions on the exam the second time I sat for it that seemed to be straight out of the Dearborn Practice finals. Your eventual clients will thank you as you will actually understand the topics, not just memorize ways to pass the test. I also noticed many of the triggers that Robert Walker used were also found (in greater depth) in the Dearborn material.

I took it after reading Dearborn's materials once, doing all their practice tests, and passed with an 85%.

In addition, the first time I sat for the exam I found myself getting confused when multiple option scenarios were introduced and not having the same difficulty using the method I learned in the Dearborn book.
I bought it because my colleagues told me that it was an easier read than some of the more formal training materials for the Series 7 course, and that it explains things in layman's terms. Having read this book, I agree. So, for someone unfamiliar with the material, or who has read other material and didn't understand it, perhaps this is a good buy.

The exam itself, however, is not written in layman's terms. This book on its own would not have prepared me for the terminology required on the exam, nor did it provide the level of detail required to pass the exam. I would not recommend this at all to somebody who copes fine, as I did, with more formal training materials (such as those from STC Interactive). You're going to have to read those more details materials, anyway, to feel ready to pass the exam.
